The UNICEF Innovation Fund provides equity-free seed funding for various startups including XR startups with a focus on impacting children’s lives. They are looking for start-ups that are developing and piloting new open source XR solutions. They provide seed funding, product and technology development and growing your business.

Unity for Humanity

Amount: $25,000

Deadline: Early 2019

Focus: Social healthcare, Science, Education, Humanitarian and Environmental issues

Each year Unity for Humanity gives a grant to creators developing projects in the field of social healthcare, science, education, humanitarian and environmental issues.

Unreal Dev Grants

Geographic Focus: Worldwide

Amount: $5,000 – 50,000

Deadline: Ongoing

Focus: Projects using Unreal Engine 4

Unreal Dev Grants financially supports projects that are built in and around Unreal Engine 4. Unreal Dev Grants can give you the boost you need to take your project beyond working prototype.

Digital Projects for the Public

Deadline: June 12, 2019

Focus: Humanities

Digital Projects for the Public is a grant for projects that analyze and interpret humanities content in digital platforms and formats. The projects must be designed to attract broad public audiences.

WEVR VR Grants

Amount: $5-50,000

WEVR provides grants for VR producers.

FFF Bayern

Geographic Focus: Europe

Amount: up to $50,000

Deadline: Ongoing

Focus: Storytelling and Experiences

Funding is awarded within the framework of production funding for television films and is intended to contribute to the realization and market presentation of unique ideas for virtual reality concepts. Applications may only be submitted on FilmFernsehFonds Bayern’s online portal.

Creating Europe Funding for video game development

This EU Fund aims to increase the capacity of European video game producers to develop projects with highly innovative content and quality gameplay.

Horizon 2020

This EU fund is for game developers focusing ground-breaking games disrupting existing markets or shaping up new ones. Horizon 2020 is the EU’s research and innovation funding programme and provides grants to research and innovation projects through open and competitive calls for proposals.

OSVR Developer Fund

Focus: VR experience

The OSVR Developer Fund is a $5 million dollar growing fund designed to encourage VR content developers to support the open ecosystem. This fund is open to all developers, indie or major, to apply.

Samsung NEXT

Geographic Focus: Worldwide

Amount: Individual

Deadline: Ongoing

Focus: Strong semantic analysis. Data repositories of human emotions and feelings.

Samsung invests in software and services startups that will define the future of hardware and software integration.

Kaleidoscope Fund

Geographic Focus: Worldwide

Amount: $340,000 average

Deadline: Ongoing

Focus: Films, games and experiences

Kaleidoscope helps secure financing, distribution and exposure for premium VR content. Kaleidoscope mission is to give independent VR creators and studios the resources they need to do great work.

Arch Grants Global Startup Competition

Geographic Focus: U.S. / St. Louis

Amount: $50,000

Deadline: April 15, 2019

Focus: Technology

The Arch Grants Global Startup Competition awards $50,000 equity-free cash grants and pro bono support services to innovative and scalable startups that agree to locate their business in St. Louis for at least one year. Arch Grants recipients are given access to other services like pro bono services in legal, marketing and human resources.

Magic Leap Independent Creator Program

Geographic Focus: U.S. / Worldwide

Amount: $20,000 – $500,000

Deadline: First wave ended (second wave to be announced soon)

Focus: Technology

A development fund to help creators bring their vision to life. They are offering grants between $20,000 and $500,000 per project along with developer and marketing support, and the hardware you‘ll need to launch your next great idea. You own your IP and publishing is not exclusive to Magic Leap.

Google Daydream Impact

Daydream Impact is a new philanthropy program that gives changemakers the inspiration, guidance and tools to improve reality using VR and AR. These experiences can be a powerful way to engage, learn and connect with others and we want to enable any nonprofit to create and share these experiences.

VR for Good by Oculus

Geographic Focus: Worldwide

Amount: Total of $620K for 14 startups

Deadline: Ongoing

Focus: Technology

Oculus runs three different programs: Creators Lab, High School 360 and Launch Pad. At the end of the bootcamp the participants can compete for a prestigious scholarship to fund their project.

Youtube VR Creator Lab

Geographic Focus: Worldwide

Amount: $30,000 – $40,000 USD

Deadline: Ongoing

Focus: Content creators

Have you been excited about the potential of VR but been scared off by the challenges of capturing and stitching content? Or have you dipped your toes in a few immersive projects but want to take your VR video creation to the next level? YouTube is taking applications for a 4 month learning and production intensive for VR creators on YouTube’s new VR180 format. Participants will receive advanced education from leading VR instructors and filmmakers, mentoring, and $30K – $40K in funding toward the production of their dream projects.
