The Vive Developer Jam, in partnership with Admix and Goldsmith’s University of London, Department of Computing, takes place next weekend, 24th – 26th January 2020. The event will offer participants the opportunity to experiment with the latest in VIVE hardware, including Eye/Lip and hand tracking, as developers are challenged to redefine how people interpret and interact with virtual reality (VR). In order to accomplish this a number of professional augmented reality (AR) and VR developers will act as mentors, including representatives of NBCUniversal and North Breeze Entertainment.
NBCUniversal, a subsidiary of Comcast Corporation, is one of the world’s leading media and entertainment companies in the development, production, and marketing of entertainment, news and information to a global audience. NBCUniversal owns and operates a valuable portfolio of news and entertainment television networks, a premier motion picture company, significant television production operations, a leading television stations group, world-renowned theme parks, and a suite of leading Internet-based businesses.
Rafi Nizam, VP Creative for the Immersive Entertainment team at NBCUniversal, will be providing advice and guidance at next weekend’s Vive Developer Jam. A multi-disciplined Creative Leader and Visual Storyteller with 15+ years experience in Entertainment and Technology sectors. Nizam leads Creative Innovation, Narrative Design and Visual Development across traditional and emerging media with a focus on Animation, XR, Real-time and Virtual Production.
“Developer jams are a terrific opportunity for collaboration, dreaming big and discovering a new frontier,” said Nizam. “I’m especially excited about the Vive Developer Jam because it’s a chance to unearth the potential of fresh hardware and further shape the medium of XR.”
Joining Nizam from NBCUniversal will be Michael Salmon, Head of Immersive Technologies and part of their Immersive Entertainment team based out of London. Salmon has worked on a broad spectrum of XR projects across the NBCU business including producing TV/VR hybrid show Halcyon and co-creating/producing Syfy’s, award winning, multilinear narrative Eleven Eleven (official selection SXSW/Venice 2019). His love affair with immersive content began in August 2013 after his first encounter with the Oculus DK1, and he has not looked back since.
Alongside NBCUniveral will be Omar Saeed, founder and CEO of North Breeze Entertainment, a studio which specializes in VR, working closely with the leading hardware manufacturers as well as providing VR and AI solutions to some of the biggest brands in the UK. North Breeze Entertainment plans to launch two major VR titles this year, as well as an enterprise AI software solution.
Saeed is a regional winner and finalist Barclays Entrepreneur Awards 2019 and an advocate for Games Aid, a UK charity. Omar has previously held CTO and other senior roles for number of technology businesses and has worked with global brands.
“VR is special. Having always worked on the bleeding edge, nothing has ever captured my attention as much as VR has,” said Saeed. “The pace of development I’ve witnessed in this field is astonishing and the use cases inspiring. I’m delighted to be mentoring the participants at Goldsmiths University and really looking forward to the results of this jam.”
Also offering assistance in the form of mentorship will be London based LITHO, an AR hardware and software startup. The Vive Developer Jam takes place 24th – 26th January 2020, at Goldsmiths University of London, in partnership with Admix. Developers interested in participating can register here.
Kevin Joyce was been working with immersive technology since 2013, establishing VRFocus.com as one of the leading AR and VR publications before joining Admix, a non-intrusive advertising platform designed specifically for immersive experiences, as Lead Evangelist.
